Head along the passage and up the steps. To your right is a campsite and a journal to collect. When you're ready, head down the zipline onto the roofs below. Dropping down to street level is a bad idea, so jump or create rope bridges to navigate your way to the marker. There are many routes you can take here, but as long as you stay off the ground you'll be safe.
The Frozen City
When you reach the objective, the enemy will start hurling rocks at you with a trebuchet, so make your way back across the city towards it. Sadly nowhere is safe now, so you'll need to combine navigating your way through the city while battling enemies. Again there are multiple paths of approach, so take whichever route you find easiest. When you reach the top there'll be a few more guards to finish off before you can catch your breath.
Once the area is clear, use your axe to turn the crank on the left-hand side of the trebuchet. When it's pointing in the right direction hold RT until the target reaches the gate, then release to blow a hole in it.
If you now jump onto the zipline you'll descend towards the western wall, and below you is a crypt entrance. Deal with it or not as the mood takes you, then head for the demolished gate. There are still a couple of enemies in the area, but you can still spend some time restocking and searching for items without too much difficulty.
When you're ready, head up the steps to find the next campsite. There's a plaque to translate and a few items to pick up in the courtyard. Next, head up the steps and through the arch to earn armour piercing arrows - not a moment too soon, as you've just been ambushed.
At first you'll be attacked by archers from the balconies, followed by a few ground based waves, then a mix of both. This is a tough fight, and the only real strategy is to shoot and not get shot. You can use the exploding jars to make things a little easier, make sure you loot ammo from fallen enemies when you can, and don't get yourself backed into a corner!

When the fight is over, head into the alcove that's not on fire and use your axe to turn the crank and open the door. Head upstairs and to the right, shoot down the barricade, jump across the gap, and head along the balcony to find a relic. Now double back towards the marker.
From the wooden platform, fire an arrow at the rope block to swing across the gap, then pull down the barrier to your right to provide a route back to camp should you need it.
Jump from the small ramp onto the zipline, grab the ice at the other end, and climb to the top. Shoot an arrow at the crane arm to spin it around, then jump and grab the bucket to knock down the ice. Navigate your way up the wall with some climbing arrows, then use the axe on the trebuchet crank to aim it towards the rope post on top of the nearby tower.
Jump across to the tower, fire a rope between the post and the front of the trebuchet, then return to the crank. Give it a little twist and the blocked mechanism will be freed, and you can now aim at the second gate and let rip.
You'll come under heavy fire again now. Drop down from the trebuchet and create a zipline across to the nearby structure. Drop down it and scramble up the wall, aim an arrow at one of the ends of the long beam between you and your destination to spin it around, then head across. Jump off the far end, grab the ice, make your way up and round the building, and get rid of the enemies if you've not already done so.
Once the coast is clear, use rope arrows to rotate the crane and position the metal bucket in its closest position to the trebuchet. From the protruding plank, clamber onto the crane arm, run to the other end, and attach the large wooden bucket to the crane by means of a rope arrow.
Drop down the zipline and spin the crane anti-clockwise to drag the wooden bucket from its resting place, then shoot the rope block under the bucket to close the bottom. Rotate the crane clockwise until the wooden bucket passes under the waterfall and fills up, then rotate the crane again so the metal bucket is once more nearest the trebuchet. Fire an arrow at the wooden bucket and let the water drain for a few seconds before shutting it again, then jump onto the top of the crane platform and leap for the metal bucket to smash the ice.
Now the trebuchet is free it's time to put it to use. Before aiming for the gate, use it to neutralise the three groups of archers raining arrows down upon you, then use it to finish off the pesky gate. Drop down from the trebuchet and make a zipline from the nearby post. Slide down and repeat the process to the next tower.
Grab the ice at the bottom and climb to the top of the tower, at which point you'll come under fire again. Fight your way through the assailants, and when you reach the end of the roof create a zipline to the balcony area opposite. Drop down to the courtyard where you were ambushed previously and head through the big hole where a mighty gate once stood.
After a brief sprint sequence (jump to the right, the left, the right, and then grapple jump) there are more Deathless Warriors to eliminate; by now you should be used to the way they fight so it should present less of a challenge, and there are an awful lot of exploding jars to bring into play. When they're dead scoop up any ammo they've left and head through the portcullis to a new camp.

Ascension
When you're finished at camp, use climbing arrows to forge a path up and round the nearby wall and pillar. After reaching the top, rope swing across the gap, grab the ice, and shimmy round to the left. Next, scramble up the boards, grapple-jump across the gap, cross the walkway, and grapple-jump from the ramp to the rock-face, grabbing it with your axe when you land.
Head round the pillar to the left, climb up, and use more climbing arrows to head up and round the corner. Once on top of the stone pillar, use the grab bar to cross the small gap, a rope swing across the very wide gap to the ice, grab with your axe, and climb to the platform. Use more climbing arrows, shimmy to the left, climb up, grapple jump across the gap, and grab the ice to reach another camp.
Jump across and grab the ice, then make your way up. The pillar will crumble beneath you, so be ready to regain your grip with X when prompted. When you run out of pillar, jump to the left and resume your ascent, then scramble your way up to discover you're not the only one with this idea. Sidle along the ledge and then, when it gives way, leap across the gap and grab the ice.
Work your way up and to the right, then climb up as a shower of enemies plummets around you. Scramble to the ledge, shimmy around to the left, jump to the ice, and quickly move left and leap up before the ice gives way. Head straight up, grapple-jump, and then shoot the bad guy who grabs your foot.
More heavy combat now against some regular troops. Work your way along the area making use of cover as you go, looting ammo whenever you have a chance, and making use of environmental kills where possible. Once the enemies are cleared, jump across the small gap and make camp. You're approaching end-game now, and this is your last chance to fast-travel until the story is completed - make sure you're ready!
The Divine Source
Grapple-jump from the ramp and grab the ice. Head left, jump across the gap, then climb and scramble to the top.
During this sequence the idea is to hit the trebuchet ammo while it's near the helicopter, and - as is traditional with boss fights - it takes three hits to knock the helicopter out of the air. Once your radio is activated, press X to fire the trebuchet, then aim for the fireball as it arcs across. Each successful hit will be followed by a wave of troops, and the simplest strategy to deal with them is to head to the upper level and camp on one of the wooden platforms. This bottle-necks the troops as they attack, and allows you to pick them off one or two at a time. When a wave is clear, you'll have to avoid the helicopter for a while until the next trebuchet shot is ready, so keep moving and be ready to heal if you get clipped.
Once the aircraft is grounded you'll end up in a circular chamber filled with hostiles. If you have the aerial takedown skill, then simply laying in wait on top of the pillar and pouncing should serve you well, and there are a few environmental hazards to make use of if all else fails. There are two waves to deal with in total, and once they're eliminated you should head for the exit. You'll be ambushed by Konstantin, clobbered from behind, and disarmed, but you still have your wits so all is not lost.
Stay out of sight and grab one of the cans that litter the area. When you're sure you can't be seen, throw the can to distract him, and when he goes to investigate sneak up behind him and hit Y to perform a melee attack. After the first successful attack he'll destroy some of the cover in the room, making it slightly harder to stay out of view, but repeat the process to hit him a second time.
He'll now counter attack, so dodge with B then hit Y when prompted to stab him in the chest. You can now finish him off or turn your back on him, but either way his days are numbered, and you're now off to the Chamber of Souls. Head up the steps and squeeze through the double doors to watch the end of the story unfold..

Lara Croft's rebooted adventures continue in this sequel to 2013's Tomb Raider. A little older and a little tougher than the shipwrecked archaeology student who appeared in that game, Lara is now a hardened adventurer on a single-minded quest to prove right the outlandish claims made by her father, the disgraced toff Lord Croft. Her quest takes her, via a brief stop in Syria, to the mountains of Siberia on a quest for - you guessed it - a lost city and a powerful, ancient artefact. She and Nathan Drake should compare notes sometime.
As in the last game, Crystal Dynamics has created a mix of straight-ahead action adventure with 'RPG-lite' character development, and given it all a strong survivalist motif. The storyline's pretty linear, but it takes you through a few expansive areas that are stuffed with side missions, challenges, and best of all, the optional Challenge Tombs: secret ruins in which you'll need to solve a complex puzzle to unlock a powerful perk for Lara. But first, you'll have to find them.
Whether you're playing on Xbox One, or the later released PS4 and Xbox One versions, read on for our walkthrough of the storyline, and guide to all of Rise of the Tomb Raider's challenge tombs, missions and challenges.

Start of the Rise of the Tomb Raider Walkthrough
Mountain Peak
This first area is essentially a movement tutorial and introduces the climbing and jumping mechanics, so it's time to don your winter gear and brace yourself for some snowy acrobatics.
Climbing the Mountain
Follow Jonah along the precipice and after a few yards there'll be a small rockslide, A few feet further on a larger rockslide will send you tumbling to your doom and trigger a Quick Time Event [QTE]. Press X to grab the ledge, then follow the on-screen prompts and make your way along the ledge to the right. Climb up the rocks, approach the rough ice, and then use your ice picks to ascend. When you reach the overhang, head to the left, jump across the gap, then jump across to your waiting companion.
Head up the path and go through the cave. Sidle along the narrow ledge, then make a jump across to the climbable ice. When you reach the top, jump up and grab the ledge, then jump right across the small gap, along the ledge, then grab the next bit of ice. As you make your way along it, a large chunk will fall leaving you with a large gap to negotiate. Leap across it and hit X to latch on, triggering another QTE. Hit X to save yourself from plummeting to your doom, then head up and right, and jump up over the gap.
Disaster strikes, but thankfully Jonah manages to keep hold of you. As you dangle from the end of the rope, use LS to swing backwards and forwards to build momentum, then use X to grab the ice when you get close enough. Once you have hold of it, climb up, then run to your right to escape the avalanche.
You're on your own now, and there's no time to hang around - if you stand still for too long, it's game over. Follow the path and jump across to the wooden platform, then down to the next platform. Head towards the plane wreck, taking care to not get pushed off the edge by falling snow. Next, stand on the boulder near the plane's engine and quickly leap across to the bar sticking out of the side of the plane, then out onto the zipline.
After dropping off the zipline you'll slide down a steep slope. Hit X when prompted so as to slow your descent and grab the ledge, then quickly jump to your right and scramble to safety. Run forwards along the collapsing cliff, and when you reach the end, jump off and grab the ice.

Syria
A brief flashback now which serves as an introduction to the puzzle and collectible gameplay, Sun, sand, and brain-teasing await in the catacombs ahead.
The Lost Tomb
After the cutscene you'll find yourself dazed and confused and on a cliff path. Follow it, then climb up and to your right and enter the cave. Once you reach the chamber press RS to activate Survival Instinct and highlight objects of interest. Examine the paintings and the plaque on the wall to level up your Greek skill, then examine the monolith to reveal the location of a Coin Cache on your map. Track it down, then head towards the cracked brick wall and examine it and use your axe to break through.
The Hidden Oasis
Head up the path to your left, jump across the small gap, and climb the brick pillar. Follow the handholds left and upwards, then make your way towards the balance beam to your left. It will start to collapse as you traverse it, so be ready to make a couple of jumps on to solid ground. Jump down and head round the corner, leap across the gap, shimmy to your right, haul yourself up to the temple entrance and head into the darkness.
- The next part of our walkthrough explains how to complete Rise of the Tomb Raider: The Prophet's Tomb.
Here’s the Quickest Way Through the Lost City in Rise of the Tomb Raider
You’ve made it to one of the final areas of Rise of the Tomb Raider, but you’re not quite done yet. Here’s how to get through the Lost City in Rise of the Tomb Raider.
This far into the Tomb Raider reboot sequel, your goal is to save Jacob’s people and prevent the menacing Trinity from obtaining the Divine Source. Before you can do this, though, you have to make your way through the Lost City of Kitezh.
At the start of this area, use the already-established zip-lines to zip across the old city and to the gate of Kitezh. Here, you’ll need to climb up and to the right to reach a trebuchet.
Here, there will be some heavy enemies that you will need to sneak past. Once you’ve made it to the far right corner, equip your broadhead arrows and create a climbable path up the walls.
Climb your newly-made path up to the trebuchet, kill the heavy guards here and then use the trebuchet to break down the Kitezh gate.
Now, go back to the gate and continue through. Head left toward the next gate and prepare for some action.
There are quite a few enemies here for you to take out and you won’t be able to advance without doing so, so equip your favorite weapons and ammo types and do what Lara Croft does best.
With your enemies dead, head through the door and up to the trebuchet. You will need to climb up the structures to get to it now.
Once you’ve made it there, aim the trebuchet at a nearby ledge with a pole wrapped in rope. After that, go to this platform and use rope arrows to connect the pole to the structure the trebuchet is stuck in.
Then, turn the trebuchet to the gate and it should become dislodged. With that done, fire the trebuchet at the gate.
Now head to the other side. Once there, you’ll need to get to the far side of the upper level.
Then, use your rope arrows to close the jug on the lever. Pull the jug under the waterfall to fill it with water until the end with the metal ornament has risen.
Make sure the ornament is lined up with the ice and once it is, release the water in the jug.
Run and quickly jump onto the ornament to swing the ornament into the ice which should break the ice apart and free the trebuchet. Now, take out the archers nearby before using the trebuchet to break down the gate.
You’re getting there, you’re almost out of the Lost City and approaching the end of Rise of the Tomb Raider, just a little bit more…
Again, use your rope arrows to make a zipline to the lower area where the archers you just took out were, which should zip you past the gate. Once here, you’ll see some enemies that you need to take out.
With them out of the way, you’re free to continue forward along the roofs of the structures you’re on. After that, create another zipline using your rope arrows to get you directly to the other side.
Zip across and take out the enemies ahead. Then, climb up the ice wall using broadhead arrows.
Continue up to the tower that leads to the highest part of the city. Once at the top, take out the enemy Trinity soldiers.
With those soldiers taken out, continue forward until you reach campsite. This is the final campsite of the game.
Accordingly, it’s also the last campsite before one of the game’s largest waves of enemies so leave the campsite prepared for a fight. During the fight, near the end, you’ll fall through the floor into a room with even more soldiers.
Take them out stealthily if you can. What happens next is something we won’t spoil, but you’re in for a fun time and a tough decision.
That’s it for how to get through the Lost City in Rise of the Tomb Raider.
With the end of the game in your sights, take a look at our Rise of the Tomb Raider review and let us know if your thoughts align with ours.

When the chapter begins, proceed down to the town to encounter some enemies after a short cutscene. Get the enemies attention by shooting at them, then fallback and take cover. Once the enemies are standing close together, shoot them with a poison arrow. If you fail to get the achievement, simply reload the chapter and try again.
Easy 'For My Next Trick..' achievementAfter making some progress through the story, fast travel to the Valley Farmstead Base Camp in Geothermal Valley. Nearby is a small village with a few houses and a large well in the middle. Near the well is a shack with some boxes to the left of the entrance, which you can jump onto with a sprinting start. Once on the boxes, climb onto the roof of the shack. You can also use the extended grapple to get on the roof if you are struggling using this method. Once on top, line yourself up with the well while giving yourself as much running space as possible and making sure to leap from the ledge closest to the well. Sprint, then jump as late as possible and quickly press LT to swan dive. If done correctly, Lara will swan dive into the well and you will get the 'For My Next Trick..' achievement.
Easy 'Huntress' achievementThe Huntress outfit can be obtained from an NPC in the Geothermal Valley region. Keep doing side missions until it becomes available.
Easy 'No Guts, No Glory' achievementFast travel to Ridgeline Base Camp in Geothermal Valley, which can be accessed after progressing through most of the story to reach this area. The base camp is located at the top of a waterfall, and just off to the side you can see a wooden platform with a red mark on it that pokes out of the side of the cliff edge. Get a running start towards the platform, jump once you reach the end, and quickly perform a swan dive by pressing LT. If done with the correct timing, Lara will enter the swan dive downwards and you will get the 'No Guts, No Glory' achievement upon hitting the water. If you fail, climb out of the water, ascend the hill, and try again.
Easy 'Paying Respects' achievementAfter making significant progress through the story and completing the 'Flooded Archives' chapter, your objective will be to proceed up the mountains to the observatory, which is at the top of hill near the waterfall in Geothermal Valley. Just a bit down hill from the base camp at the top of the hill, off to the right hand side (if ascending), you can find a small group of people sitting next to a tombstone. Walk up to them to get the 'Paying Respects' achievement. If ascending, it will be immediately to the right after crossing a small wooden bridge and climbing up a small rockface. Note: You can replay 'Flooded Archives' in Expedition mode if you missed the opportunity the first time.

You can access this area by going up the hill, entering the building next to it, and using the tree branch to swing across. Once you swing across into the tall domed building, hang off the ledge and shimmy to the right to find a wooden chair on a small piece of the roof. Pull yourself up, approach the chair, and press X to sit down to get the 'Quiet Time' achievement.

Easy 'Spinning Leaf' achievement ('Cold Darkness Awakened' DLC)Use the Big Head Mode and Big Head Enemies cards. If you only have the Big Head Mode card, which makes Lara's head big, it will add some amount of score bonus in Endurance mode because you will be easier to hit. However, the Infected here are melee-only, with an occasional suicide grenadier, so it will not be too difficult. Also, consider using the card that adds a 100% score bonus. It makes Infected only killable by headshots and finishers and will make sure that you get the correct kind of kill. You have approximately 12 seconds between each kill. Infected will spawn everywhere, especially if you make noise.
Easy 'Trick Shot' achievementYou can shoot a bottle out of the air once you have reached the Ruins Encampment base camp in Geothermal Valley. There is a crate of bottles near the campfire that you can use to toss in the air and shoot.
Easy 'Triple Threat' achievementIn Expedition mode, select 'The Acropolis' chapter on the lowest difficulty in 'Chapter Replay'. You can also select 'Chapter Replay Elite' to use your upgraded gear and shotgun to make it easier. When the chapter begins, proceed down to the town to encounter some enemies after a short cutscene. Get the enemies attention by shooting at them, then fallback and take cover. Once the enemies are standing close together, use the smoke bomb to confuse the enemies, then run up to them and keep shooting them with the shotgun to weaken them and eventually kill three enemies with one shotgun blast. An explanation of the two myths behind Lara Croft's latest journey.
Get the latest news and videos for this game daily, no spam, no fuss.
In Rise of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft is searching for the secret of immortality, spurred ahead by two Slavic fairytales: Koschei the Deathless and the Lost City of Kitezh. Crystal Dynamics has taken some creative liberties in meshing these two stories together, but the meaning and symbolism behind each one remains intact on Lara's adventure. We took a look at these old myths to get a greater sense of what lies ahead for Lara.

This story of Koschei the Deathless centers around an antagonistic man named Koschei who is often represented in Russian illustrations as being a very old, ugly and skeletal man who harasses young women with magic. He can't be killed by physical harm, because his soul doesn't reside in his body. Koschei, in a bid to extend his life, removed his soul and placed it inside a needle. This needle was then placed inside an egg in the womb of a live duck, the duck was then placed inside a live hare, and the hare was placed inside a chest made of iron or gold (depends on the storyteller) and buried beneath a green oak tree.
This oak tree resides on an isolated island in the middle of the ocean called Buyan, a mysterious land mentioned in several Slavic myths. This isolated island plays into the second myth in Rise of the Tomb Raider, but we'll get to that in a bit.
Koschei can't die so long as his soul is buried and untouched. The myth states that if the chest is dug up and opened, the hare will leap out and try to run away. If the hare is killed, the duck will try to escape. If both the hare and the duck are killed and someone gets the egg, Koschei will weaken, lose his magical powers and be subjected to their will. If the possessor opens the egg and breaks the needle, Koschei dies.
